House change

The room that is called "the bathroom" in the States, and called "the toilet" in Australia, has now been officially renamed at my house ----- it's now called "the petting station".  Jarah makes sure that EVERYTIME I use the toilet that she gets pets.  After all, I'm just sitting there doing nothing to keep me from petting her.  I'm glad that she is so generous with receiving pets. 

Border Fence Firm Snared for Hiring Illegal Workers

From an NPR report:  A fence-building company in Southern California agrees to pay nearly $5 million in fines for hiring illegal immigrants. Two executives from the company may also serve jail time. The Golden State Fence Company's work includes some of the border fence between San Diego and Mexico.

Silly boy!

Monday night football time.  Terry is glued to the telly watching Seattle and some other team play in the stadium a few miles from our house.  I look outside the window -right next to where Terry is sitting - "Look at the snow." Terry's response..."Yeah, I see it on the football field." 

Sigh.....

Lessons learned this weekend

1:  Hanging the thermos of coffee on the door handle of the front door does not guarantee that the thermos will be remembered.

1A:  When you get home 10 hours later, congratulate yourselves on owning a great thermos, because the coffee is still hot.

2:  Always stake the shade tent, even if it isn't windy when it's set up. 

2A:  Congratulate yourselves for choosing good neighbors who rescued - and staked - your tent for you when it blew away while you were running the dog. 

Birthday celebration

I celebrated over 2 days because Terry had the day off yesterday.  We went for a nice bicycle ride in the morning, and Terry cooked a great dinner.  Even Geikie got into the celebratory mode.

Heard on the morning radio show shortly after the exposé in USA Today about their database of domestic phone calls....

What's worse?  The NSA database or that the best investigative reporting these days is at USA Today?

Are you wondering?

You might be wondering if anything newsworth happens in our household that doesn't involve Jarah or Geikie.  Actually, the answer is "not much". 

Did I really hear my Dad say that?!?

After the big family dinner last night at my parents' house, with my niece and nephew and my sister and her husband, my dad was putting away the silverware this morning.  He told me that "it was all there, I counted it."  Gail and Mark, if you read this blog post, know that when you come to dinner, that Dad counts the silverware when you leave!

Another flat tire

Not on my bicycle - on Terry's bicycle.  The flat tire frequency in our house is similar to the ratio of the frequency of breaking wine glasses.  Thus, it was no surprise yesterday when Terry came home from work and announced that he was off to the garage to fix his flat.  The noise from the garage though was LOUD.  Much louder than necessary to fix a flat.  Peeking in, I saw why.  Of course!  I should have guessed.  He had out the power tools!   The air compressor was running; it was hooked up to a sanding disk with which he was "roughing up" the area around the hole in the inner tube.  That's how a man fixes a flat tire.
